Caldwell Youth Forum

A Subcommittee of the Youth Master Plan Committee

In 2011 the Caldwell Youth Master Plan was adopted to provide a framework to enhance the life and safety of Caldwell's youth and children.  The Plan outlined 12 strategic initiatives in six categories:

Out-of-School Time                Education and Workforce Readiness    Safety
Community Involvement     Health & Wellness                                     Communication & Relationships

In working to meet the goals of the Youth Master Plan, the Youth Master Plan Committee organized the first annual Caldwell Youth Forum, held in September 2013 at the College of Idaho campus.

The goal is to bring together selected high school students from area high schools; the first schools involved included Caldwell High School, Vallivue High School, Canyon Springs High School, Vallivue Academy, and COSSA.  In 2017, the newly constructed Ridgevue High School was added, and Elevate Academy Charter School was added  in 2019.

Event attendance is by invitation only, in consultation with local school administrators and teachers, and focuses on students who are succeeding academically, but who are not actively involved in student government, non-educational school activities, or out-of-school activity opportunities.  Students are challenged to shake off the bystander role, to enact positive change in their school culture, and to look inside of themselves for the commitment and motivation to become more actively involved in their schools and in planning for their futures.

The Forum has a budget of $4,900 which must be raised from individuals and businesses.  Each year, several local businesses step up and help provide some of the financing to keep this vital event funded, and each year there is a need for a few additional sponsors.  All sponsors are recognized in advertising for the event, and on the back of the event t-shirts.  In supporting the Caldwell Youth Forum,  agencies, organizations, and private businesses are working together to help empower our youth in becoming the leaders of their future.
