Published on June 15, 2025
Last night, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers from the Caldwell Police Department, Caldwell Fire, and Canyon County Paramedics responded to a medical emergency call involving a 68-year-old man. The reporting party indicated that the man was suffering from an unknown medical condition, acting violently, and was threatening to jump off a third-floor balcony.
In an attempt to save the man from harming himself or others, police and fire personnel restrained him and placed him in handcuffs for his safety. Police and fire personnel used minor physical force and body weight to restrain him. Shortly after, handcuffs were applied, the man lost consciousness. Officers and fire personnel removed the handcuffs and immediately began life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the man tragically passed away.
Due to the nature of this incident, the Critical Incident Task Force responded and is conducting an independent investigation into the facts and circumstances of this death. The cause of death is unknown at this time and is pending an autopsy. The Nampa Police Department is the primary investigative agency, and any questions should be referred to them.
“In moments like these, words often fall short of the profound sorrow we feel. The tragic loss of life in our custody weighs heavily on my heart, and my deepest sympathy goes out to the family and loved ones affected. The department is committed to transparency and accountability as we navigate this painful process. Every loss is a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and serve with compassion,” said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Chief of Police.
