Mayor Eric Phillips
2026 - Present
Eric Phillips was born in Nampa and raised in Caldwell, where he developed a lasting appreciation for community, hard work, and public service. He attended public schools in both the Caldwell and Vallivue districts and graduated from Vallivue High School in 2000. Eric was an active member in the Vallivue FFA. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a career of service that would take him around the world.
During his Navy tenure, Eric served at several major duty stations, including Lemoore, California; Oak Harbor, Washington; Norfolk, Virginia; and Mayport, Florida. He completed four deployments: a Western Pacific cruise aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), a Mediterranean tour on the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58), and two deployments to the Middle East, including time north of Baghdad, Iraq at Balad Air Base. These experiences shaped his understanding of leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.
After returning home to Idaho, Eric spent 15 years serving the community as a police officer and School Resource Officer. His work in law enforcement strengthened his commitment to public safety and to the wellbeing of Caldwell’s families. In 2023, he transitioned to the role of Director of Student Safety and Emergency Operations for the Caldwell School District. Over the next two years, he modernized security practices and improved emergency preparedness and safety across the district’s schools.
Alongside his professional service, Eric pursued higher education with determination. He earned associate degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the College of Western Idaho, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Boise State University. He is now nearing completion of a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University, further expanding his knowledge of law, policy, and community-centered governance.
During his time in school, Eric worked security, stocked grocery shelves, worked at a movie theater, worked for Micron and also worked for an excavation company. This gave Eric the opportunity to broaden the depth of his work experience, while pursuing his education.
Eric was elected Mayor of Caldwell in 2025. His path, from local student to Navy veteran, from law enforcement officer to safety administrator and community advocate, reflects a lifelong dedication to the people and place that shaped him. He brings to the Mayor’s Office a steady belief in transparency, responsible stewardship, and collaborative leadership.
Eric’s deepest source of strength comes from his family. After years of hardship and hope, he and his wife, Angie, welcomed their son, Atlas, an unexpected and deeply cherished blessing. That continues to ground his perspective and remind him of what truly matters. Eric’s family roots run deep in Caldwell, and his commitment to the community guides Eric’s work every day.
Whether meeting with residents, strengthening partnerships, or shaping policies for Caldwell’s future, Eric draws inspiration from his home, his upbringing, and the supporters who have walked alongside him. He remains grateful for the trust placed in him and is committed to serving Caldwell with integrity, purpose, and heart.
