Project Description

The City of Caldwell is designing improvements to the Cleveland Boulevard and Linden Street intersection in Caldwell. This intersection serves as a vital route for motorists and a major hub for businesses. Improvements will help improve safety, help traffic move more smoothly and reduce delays at this busy intersection.

Overview

The City of Caldwell is working with DKS Associates to design improvements to the intersection. The design process will include:

  • Developing detailed design plans
  • Gathering input from agencies, stakeholders and community members

Design work is underway and is expected to continue into early 2027.

Need for Project

The Cleveland Boulevard and Linden Street intersection is a busy area with several businesses and entrances close to the traffic signal.

Between 2019 and 2023, 50 crashes were reported at the intersection. Of those, 23 resulted in injuries. Rear-end crashes were the most common.

Traffic is also expected to increase at this intersection in the future. Proposed improvements will help make the intersection safer and help traffic move more efficiently as the area grows.

Planned Improvements

The current design includes:

  • · Updating the traffic signal.
  • · Adding right-turn lanes on Linden Street.
  • · Adding flashing pedestrian crossing signs.
  • · Adding medians on Linden Street.
  • · Extending medians on Cleveland Boulevard.
  • · Replacing business entrances.
  • · Keeping the existing through and left-turn lanes on Cleveland Boulevard.

Some business entrances near the intersection will become right-in/right-out. This means drivers could turn right into or out of the driveway but could not turn left across traffic. Reducing left-turn movements increases public safety along our roadways.

Community Input

Community involvement is an important part of this project.

The city will meet with businesses near the intersection to talk about the design and any changes to business access.

The city will also host a public meeting to share the plans, answer questions and hear feedback from the community. More information about the meeting will be posted here as the project moves forward.

Timeline

  • Early 2026 – Design work.
  • Late 2026 / early 2027 – Host public meeting to share improvement plans.
  • 2027 – Finalize design plans.
  • 2028 – Construction is anticipated to begin.
