At approximately 6:15 p.m., Caldwell Police officers responded to reports of an armed suspect in the area of 7th Avenue and Freeport Street. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jose Antonio Gallegos Jr., was reportedly brandishing two firearms and threatening a neighbor outside a residence on Freeport Street. After the initial confrontation, Gallegos fled the scene in a vehicle.

While officers were in contact with the victim by phone, they heard multiple gunshots in the background and learned that the suspect had returned and shot at the victim's residence several times before fleeing the scene in his vehicle. Detectives utilized technology resources, including Flock cameras, to identify the suspect vehicle.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the vehicle was located in the area of Cleveland Boulevard and Laster Street by a Deputy with the Canyon County Sheriff's Office. Deputies and officers attempted to stop the suspect, who fled. Officers initiated a short vehicle pursuit until the suspect lost control of the vehicle near the Walmart parking lot on Cleveland Boulevard, striking a street sign and an unoccupied parked vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended moments later after a brief foot pursuit.

During a subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle, officers recovered two firearms, two spent shell casings, and open alcohol containers. Six additional shell casings were located at the original crime scene. Thankfully, no one was injured during the shooting, pursuit or the traffic collision.
