Caldwell Police have arrested a man after a hit-and-run incident that occurred in the 4800 block of Ida Red Ave.

On April 16, just before 4 p.m., officers responded to reports of a vehicle striking a child who was riding a bicycle in the street in front of his home. According to the preliminary investigation, a truck traveling at a high rate of speed struck the front tire of the bicycle, causing the child and bike to fall to the roadway.

The child, age 4, sustained minor injuries. After being evaluated by responding officers, the child was transported to a local hospital by family members.

Officers quickly located the driver, 23-year-old Josuah Martinez, and he was taken into custody without incident. He is facing charges including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident (felony), and resist/obstruction of an officer.

Caldwell Police remind all drivers that leaving the scene of an accident is both dangerous and illegal. If you are involved in a crash, you are required to stop immediately, check for injuries, and contact emergency services. Remaining at the scene ensures that anyone injured receives prompt care and that accurate information can be provided to first responders.
