Earlier Trash & Recycling Pickups Due to Extreme Heat
Published on July 22, 2026
The City of Caldwell has approved a temporary adjustment to residential trash and recycling collection hours to help protect sanitation workers during the current period of extreme heat.
Beginning Thursday, July 23, Republic Services will begin residential trash and recycling collection at 6:00 a.m., one hour earlier than the normal 7:00 a.m. start time. The temporary schedule will remain in effect through August 31. Unless otherwise announced, residential trash and recycling collection will return to the normal 7:00 a.m. start time on September 1.
The adjustment under the City's code, which allows temporary operational changes during unusual circumstances. With high temperatures forecasted, the earlier start time will help reduce employees' exposure to extreme heat while allowing essential sanitation services to continue safely.
Residents are encouraged to place their trash and recycling carts at the curb the night before their scheduled collection day to ensure they are ready for the earlier pickup time.
Republic Services will notify customers directly through text message. The City of Caldwell is also sharing this information to help ensure residents are aware of the temporary change.
The city appreciates the community's understanding and cooperation as Republic Services takes proactive steps to protect the health and safety of its employees while continuing to provide reliable service.
