A man was arrested Friday afternoon following a felony eluding incident on Interstate 84 and a coordinated effort between the Caldwell Police Department and Idaho State Police.

At 1:20 p.m., an Idaho State Police trooper attempted to stop a Mazda traveling 85 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-84. The driver failed to stop and fled, at one point driving the wrong way on eastbound I-84 to travel westbound, creating a significant safety hazard.

Idaho State Police later identified the driver as 39-year-old Dennis Davenport and requested assistance from Caldwell Police due to his ties to the area. After initially being unable to locate him, the vehicle’s license plate was entered into the FLOCK license plate reader system.

At 2:29 p.m., a FLOCK alert located the vehicle near Franklin Road and Specht Avenue. Caldwell officers quickly located the vehicle near East Chicago Street and North 16th Avenue and confirmed Davenport was driving.

As the vehicle slowed in traffic near North 10th Avenue and East Chicago Street, officers used a vehicle containment technique to prevent Davenport from fleeing. He complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers observed marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle and located methamphetamine during a subsequent search. Davenport was taken into custody by the Idaho State Police and transported to the Canyon County Jail
