On March 21, at 6:30 p.m. officers responded to a call for shots fired in the 800 block of Chicago Street.

According to calls approximately 15-20 individuals wearing gang attire were observed fighting in front of a residence. During the altercation a female, identified as 21-year-old Jazmin Ramirez, picked up the gun of one of the attackers that fell from their person. Ramirez started shooting the gun in the air to try to stop the fight. No one was hit by the bullets. A citizen was standing within feet of Ramirez and the bullets reportedly traveled over his semi-truck. The victim would later wish to pursue charges and have justice upheld for Ramirez’s actions.

Ramirez left the scene and officers arrived moments later and began searching for the suspect vehicle. The car was located a short time later, a high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and the car was found to be occupied by a relative of Ramirez. Moments later, Ramirez turned herself in. Patrol was able to detain her and she was transported to the hospital due to injuries she incurred during the fight.

She is facing unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits, destruction of evidence, and riot.

An investigation is ongoing for others involved in the event.

“This act of violence does not reflect the values of our community, and I am very proud of our swift response which led to the successful and safe capture of the suspect involved in this incident within just a few hours,” said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Chief of Police.
