At approximately 5:00 p.m., the Caldwell Fire Department responded to reports of a residential fire in the 1500 block of N. Plateau Avenue. The fire originated in the garage and quickly spread throughout the home, resulting in a total loss of the structure. At the time of the fire, one minor was inside the residence. They were able to safely evacuate and call 911. Sadly, the family’s pets, including two dogs, a bearded dragon, and two birds, did not survive. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears accidental at this time. Caldwell Fire Investigators are on scene with remaining crews and will remain there for the next few hours. Please avoid the area. Caldwell Fire crews were supported on scene by Mid Star Fire, Nampa Fire, Wilder Fire, and Canyon County Paramedics. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries. Caldwell Fire has assisted the displaced family in securing a temporary shelter.
