On February 4 at approximately 4:45 p.m., an officer witnessed a traffic collision involving two vehicles near Linden Road and Smeed.

While on patrol, the officer observed the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta, later identified as 20-year-old Malachi Ineck, driving aggressively and engaging in road-rage behavior toward another driver. Ineck passed the other driver in a clearly marked no-passing zone. During the maneuver, he struck the front of the Jeep, causing his own vehicle to roll over.

Following the collision, Ineck exited his vehicle and approached the driver of the other vehicle and assaulted them.

During the follow-up investigation, officers assigned to the Real Time Information Center located evidence of the crime on the Department's traffic cameras.

Ineck was taken into custody and arrested on charges of reckless driving and assault. He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance and was later booked into the Canyon County Jail.

Road rage is dangerous and can escalate quickly. Avoid engaging with other aggressive drivers.  Keep a safe following distance so you’re not forced into sudden reactions. Use your horn sparingly, quick taps for safety, not frustration.
