This morning at 2:30 a.m., one of our officers observed a vehicle run a stop sign at a high rate of speed with the trunk open. He initiated his lights to conduct a stop near Linden and Michigan, and the vehicle failed to yield. The vehicle drove west on Linden for approximately two blocks and then turned down an alley. The subject, 22-year-old William Medina-Hernandez, jumped out as the vehicle was still in drive. The vehicle continued and was stopped by a curb and made minimal contact with a shed.
Our officer chased Medina-Hernandez on foot and caught up to him at the next block. He was detained without incident. The vehicle appears to have been recently stolen from a car lot in Nampa.
Medina-Hernandez is facing the following charges: burglary, grand theft, resist and obstruct, driving without privilege, DUI, eluding, and leaving the scene of an accident.
“This is yet another example of how officers risk their lives every shift to keep our community safe, said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Chief of Police.
