To make summer jobs more accessible and improve public safety, the City of Caldwell is partnering with the Caldwell Lions Club to sponsor the cost of lifeguard certification (250.00) for ten community members. The initiative was recently approved by the Caldwell Lions Club.

“This is a win-win for our community,” said Tiffany DeFrance, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We’re giving young people the opportunity to earn a valuable certification and a job, while also ensuring our pool is properly staffed this summer.”

The initiative aims to remove financial barriers for people interested in becoming certified lifeguards. Each sponsored person will have their class fees fully covered, thanks to the Caldwell Lions Club.

“When we saw the need for more certified lifeguards and the financial hurdle it posed for some people, we knew we could help,” said Jim Watkins, President of the Caldwell Lions Club. “Supporting youth employment and public safety is exactly the kind of community service we’re proud to stand behind. Where there is a need, there is a Lion! Join us for a lunch meeting to learn more and get involved. We meet every Wednesday at noon at the Golden Palace restaurant (703 Main St., Caldwell). All are welcome!”

The next lifeguard certification class is scheduled for June 18 - 22, and it can accommodate up to ten participants. To secure a spot and ensure follow-through, participating students must commit to completing the class and making themselves available for summer employment through the city’s Recreation Department.
