On February 4, just before 10 p.m., Caldwell Police officers responded to the 2800 block of S. Georgia to investigate reports of gunshots heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers found several spent bullet casings on East Locust Street, as well as bullet strikes to a residence nearby. Thankfully, no one was injured or struck by gunfire. Detectives were called out to investigate further and process the scene.
During the preliminary investigation, officers assigned to the Real Time Information Center (RTIC) began to search for a suspect vehicle in the license plate reader database. Shortly thereafter, RTIC identified the license plate associated with the suspect's vehicle, and additional follow-up occurred. After a long night of police work, CPD served a search warrant at a residence associated with suspects in the 1500 block of Idaho. Detectives arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with the shooting and another juvenile in connection with the crime. A gun was recovered from the suspect's home.
The teens were taken into custody and confessed to their role(s) in the shooting. Based on their age, their names and photos will not be shared. The motive for the shooting is still undetermined.
“By the grace of God, no one was struck by the gunfire during this attack. Acts of violence like this will not be tolerated in Caldwell, and this case highlights the immediate benefits of our technological advancements, coupled with our amazing men and women in our police department. Let this message be loud and clear - do not come to Caldwell and commit a crime. We will systematically find you and bring you to justice,” said Chief Rex Ingram, Caldwell Police Department.
