Two Alarm Vegetation Fire Contained on Red Top Road
Published on July 02, 2026
At approximately 3:50 pm today firefighters from the Caldwell Fire Department were dispatched to the 19000 block of Red Top Road within the Caldwell Rural Fire District for a reported structure fire.
The first arriving crews found approximately one acre of rapidly spreading grass on fire with multiple recreational vehicles and two structures immediately threatened. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines, protected the threatened structures and vehicles, and made an aggressive attack on the fire. Crews then flanked the remaining fire and completed containment.
The fire ultimately burned an estimated 2.5 to 3 acres. One structure sustained minor damage, but no homes were lost and no residents were displaced.
Firefighters from the Caldwell Fire Department were assisted by the Wilder Fire District, Middleton Star Fire District, Sand Hollow Fire District, and the Nampa Fire District, which provided coverage for emergency calls within the City of Caldwell while local resources remained committed to the incident.
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with traffic control and stood by to support evacuation efforts should conditions have worsened.
The fire has been determined to have been caused by children playing with fire. While the incident was not intentional, it was entirely preventable. A fire investigator remains on scene, and our Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program personnel are working directly with the family to provide education and resources.
Thankfully, there were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Today’s incident serves as another reminder that current fire conditions across the Treasure Valley remain extremely dangerous. Grasses have cured rapidly, fuels are critically dry, and even a small flame can quickly grow into a fast moving wildfire capable of threatening lives and property.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with their children about the dangers of fire and to ensure matches, lighters, fireworks, and other ignition sources are secured and kept out of reach. It only takes a few seconds for curiosity to become an emergency.
Firefighters will remain on scene for approximately one additional hour conducting extensive mop up operations to eliminate any remaining hot spots and prevent rekindles.
We would like to thank all of our cooperating agencies for their rapid response and continued partnership. We also appreciate the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with traffic control and evacuation readiness. It was good to have them alongside us today, and they even got a small taste of what it’s like to fight a fire. We appreciate their willingness to jump in wherever needed.
