Community Car Seat Check

The Caldwell Police Department is inviting parents, grandparents, and caregivers to participate in a free Car Seat Safety Check Event on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the Caldwell Police Department will be available in the Caldwell City Hall parking lot to inspect car seats and provide education to help ensure children are properly secured while traveling.
During the event, certified technicians will check car seats for proper installation, confirm the seat is appropriate for the child’s age and size, and provide hands-on guidance on safe car seat practices. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn important tips for keeping their children safe on every trip.
Many parents and caregivers may not realize that car seats can be installed incorrectly or may require adjustments as children grow. A properly installed and correctly used car seat can help reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash.
“Car seats are designed to protect children, but they must be installed and used correctly to work as intended,” said Caldwell Police Traffic Officer Thomas DeFur. “Our certified technicians are here to help families make sure their child’s car seat is properly fitted and provide education that can make a difference in a crash.”
Community members are encouraged to bring their vehicle, car seat, and child, if possible, so technicians can evaluate the installation and provide personalized instruction. Technicians can assist with questions regarding rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats, booster seats, and transitioning children to seat belts.
The event is free and open to the public. No appointment is necessary.
