Road Rage in Construction Zone Leads to Property Damage

On July 17, at approximately 3 p.m., Caldwell Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in an active construction zone near 10th Avenue and Ustick Road. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Edelmira Santizo Roblero, was traveling northbound when she failed to obey flaggers managing traffic through the work zone.
Flaggers on-site attempted to signal Roblero to stop as she approached the construction area near Canyon Small Animal Hospital. Witnesses reported that Roblero was visibly upset at being instructed to stop and, after briefly halting, deliberately turned her steering wheel to the right and accelerated rapidly. Her car struck the north wall of the Canyon Small Animal Hospital, a section of the building that had only recently been repaired following a separate DUI crash in February.
While the vehicle did not penetrate the building, it caused significant external damage—destroying air conditioning units, the power meter, and the electrical supply box. Idaho Power responded and confirmed that the entire buried power line would need replacement.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Roblero, who does not possess a valid driver’s license, was cited for reckless driving and failure to purchase.
“Our flaggers are working long hours in extreme heat to protect both construction crews and drivers. Choosing to ignore their signals, especially in frustration or anger, is dangerous and unacceptable. I urge all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and follow instructions in construction zones. A few minutes of patience can prevent serious injuries—or worse. These men and women are someone’s family. Let’s protect them while they protect us,” said Rex Ingram, Caldwell Chief of Police.
