Enforcement of Parking Regulations
The City has various methods of enforcing parking regulations throughout the city as specified below:
- City-Wide Parking: Chapter 9, Article 7: Parking Regulations, Caldwell City Code, has provisions prohibiting the standing or parking of any vehicle, or the method of parking, to include motorcycles, which shall apply at all times or at those times specified or as indicated on official signs. The City of Caldwell Parking Compliance Division is responsible for the enforcement of parking regulations on a city-wide basis.
- The City of Caldwell Police Department is responsible for the enforcement of all traffic and parking regulations city-wide, primarily within the public right-of-way and public property; and
- The City of Caldwell Parking Compliance Division is responsible for enforcing parking regulations city-wide, on both public and private property.
Parking Compliance Division
The parking compliance division, which resides under the Planning & Zoning Department, is responsible for improving and maintaining the quality of life and environment of neighborhoods and streets by effectively enforcing the city’s parking regulations.
This includes, first and foremost, educating the public through the issuance of warning tickets, and secondly, the enforcement of continued violations through the issuance of parking tickets associated with a fine, the towing of vehicles, and in some very rare cases, the issuance of misdemeanor citations.
Common Parking Violations
Our staff primarily provides enforcement for:
- Parking in no parking zone
- Overtime parking
- Parking in fire lane or along any yellow or red painted curb
- Parking where official signs prohibit
- Junk motor vehicles
- Parking in front of a driveway and/or mailbox
- Unauthorized parking in handicap stall or adjacent access aisle
- Parking or driving on grass
- Parking commercial trucks / vehicles on any street or right of way in the city
- Parking in alley

Please contact the Caldwell Police Department, non-emergency dispatch at (208) 454-7531 for the following:
Abandoned Vehicles: An officer who has reasonable grounds to believe that a vehicle has been "abandoned" or that a vehicle is inoperative, is authorized to remove the vehicle from a highway or public or private property to a garage or nearest place of safety. Abandoned or inoperative vehicles will be normally towed away 48 hours if on the street or five (5) days if on private property or business property open to the public. All vehicles parked on City streets must be registered and in operative condition, i.e. all tires up, engine running, etc. It is unlawful to maintain junk motor vehicles or parts of junk vehicles on the street, public property or business property open to the public. Violations can result in impounding of the vehicle and/or a misdemeanor citation.
Parking Tickets
The Caldwell Police Department, and the Caldwell Parking Compliance Division have the authority to issue parking tickets, and each ticket vary in the way they look and the information they contain.
