Description
At a full working level, individual performs physical tasks associated with maintenance at the Caldwell Events Center or other assigned City locations; sets up and tears down for scheduled events; provides assistance and customer service in coordination of events. Individual hired for this position will start approximately the first week of July 2026.
The work is performed under the direct supervision of the CEC Superintendent. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials and employees, business owners, patrons, event coordinators, and the general public. An employee in this class may perform the assigned duties on athletic fields, events centers, RV area, and other related City facilities. The principal duties of this class are performed indoors as well as in an outdoor environment which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.
Responsibilities
- Performs work to plant, water, fertilize, cultivate, mow, and rake grass.
- Sets and tears down for events.
- Provides coordination and customer service.
- Collects litter and debris.
- Empties CEC and RV area garbage cans and hauls the collected waste to the City dump.
- May apply pesticides or maintain other chemical program operations.
- Uses hand tools such as picks, shovels, and rakes.
- Operates power equipment, including chain saws, edgers, weed eaters, push and riding mowers, and field painters.
- Inventories CEC areas and informs supervisor of any needed repairs and maintenance.
- Cleans and weeds flower beds and mulches around flowers and waters as appropriate.
- Prunes flowers and related shrubbery.
- Repairs windows, doors, plumbing, and other fixtures.
- Performs manual tasks in the installation of water lines, irrigation systems, fencing, flag poles, benches, and picnic tables.
- Repairs worn landscape areas by cultivating, leveling grades, and replacing grass.
- Monitors and maintains equipment in a safe operating condition and reports all damages to supervisor.
- Checks and maintains air, oil, fuel, spark plugs, mower blades, tires etc.
- Cleans equipment and work area.
- Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
- Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new and improved ways of addressing such problems.
- Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
- Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:
- At least one year work experience involving landscaping and mowing.
- At least one year work experience involving indoor and outdoor building and facility maintenance, including repairs, custodial duties, and painting.
Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:
- 18 years of age.
- Possession of valid driver’s license.
- Obtain a Food Handling Certification from Southwest District Health within 90 days of employment.
- Subject to varying shift hours, including some holiday, evening and weekend work as necessary.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check, drug testing, and physical.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year work experience setting up and tearing down for large events
- Possession of an Idaho Professional Applicator License (Categories GP, LS, OH, OI, and RW)
