Building & Trade Permits

NOTE:  ALL COMMERCIAL, ONE AND TWO-FAMILY DWELLING, AND MULTI-FAMILY PERMITS MUST BE SUBMITTED DIGITALLY THROUGH THE ONLINE PORTAL SYSTEM.  PAPER SUBMITTALS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED. 

Permit Application Forms

Please allow 24 hours for the city’s building department to process your request after submittal. Requests submitted after 5:00 pm will not be officially received until 10:00 AM the following business day. Please allow 24 hours from that time for processing. We are diligent in working to process your quests as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.


Commercial Applications & Documents

Important to remember: Prior to building permit issuance, plans for food related establishments (i.e. restaurants, bars, markets, delis, snack bars, etc...) must also be reviewed and approved by the State of Idaho, Southwest District Health Department. They may be contacted at (208) 455-5400.


City of Caldwell "Red Carpet Service"

As part of our Red Carpet Program, all commercial and mixed use projects will be assigned a Team Leader from our Development Team, who will oversee your project, and who will also be your primary contact throughout the process. Your project will require review and approval from various City Departments/Divisions. Questions or inquiries during the permit process will be directed to your team leader, though some department specific questions may require that you interact with any one or all of the department Team Leaders listed below.

06. International Energy Conservation Code – Residential Provisions. The 2018 Edition with the following amendments: (7-1-24)
e. Section R402.4.1.2. Add the following exception: Visual Inspection.
The Permit Holder will determine at the time of permit application the method of determining building envelope tightness. A visual inspection shall be considered acceptable in lieu of testing when the items listed in Table R402.4.1.1, applicable to the method of construction, are field verified.
