The City of Caldwell Police Department is looking for two Community Service Officers to join their team. Individual in this position supports the Caldwell Police Department through a wide range of operational, administrative, and community-focused duties providing critical first-responder support and plays an essential role in advancing the department's commitment to public safety and community trust. This non-sworn position enhances public safety by responding to non-emergency calls for service, assisting with criminal and non-criminal investigations, and addressing issues such as graffiti, abandoned vehicles, and other public safety concerns. This position operates under the supervision of the patrol division and is entrusted with a degree of discretion in carrying out duties while upholding the highest standards of professional integrity. The principal functions of this position are performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to challenging and potentially hazardous situations.

Responsibilities

  • Works as part of the police patrol team in a non-sworn support role.
  • Responds to non-emergency and cold calls for service, including thefts, vandalism, burglaries, frauds, and other incidents.
  • Meets with victims in person or by phone to conduct fact finding interviews and preliminary investigations to determine whether a crime has occurred.
  • Prepares clear, detailed, and accurate investigative reports for documentation and potential court proceedings.
  • Articulates the elements of identified crimes in written reports submitted for review, follow-up, or prosecution.
  • Provides public assistance and supports officers at crime scenes when requested.
  • Supports police personnel through documentation, records management, and data processing.
  • Performs information analysis and related administrative tasks.
  • Assists with the online reporting process.
  • Processes basic crime scenes and collects evidence.
  • Retrieves, transports, and books found property into evidence.
  • Uses a variety of databases to gather relevant information.
  • Attends court when subpoenaed and provides testimony under oath.
  • Assists with enforcement of City of Caldwell ordinances.
  • Issues warnings or citations for parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
  • Documents and assists with graffiti-related incidents.
  • Provides crowd control and assists with critical incidents, major events, and SWAT activations.
  • Patrols assigned areas to address public safety concerns and support patrol operations.
  • Assists with traffic control at accident scenes, city events, and emergency incidents.
  • Deploys traffic radar trailer and supports traffic-related functions.
  • Assists with transporting and coordinating fleet vehicles for maintenance and repair.
  • Maintains a professional, cooperative, and problem-solving attitude.
  • Attends required trainings, meetings, and patrol briefings.
  • Coordinates with neighborhood watch groups, city event planners, and community stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience Required:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid and current driver’s license.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain NCIC and ILETS Certification.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test to include prescription medications.
  • Successful completion of a psychological test and polygraph test.
  • Successful completion of the department field training program and physical requirements.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, shift work, overtime, and respond to callbacks.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 10-hour workday schedule.
