Description

The City of Caldwell is looking for a Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor. Individual will oversee and coordinate routine repairs, maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of city buildings and grounds; supervises maintenance and custodial staff; ensures all facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant with regulations; and is responsible for some contract and budgetary monitoring. The work is performed under the supervision of the finance director and may receive direction from the Mayor, with leeway granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this position are performed in an indoor and outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of facility maintenance operations, including hiring, training, evaluating staff, and approving timesheets.
  • Coordinates and oversees contractors and service providers ensuring work complies with contract requirements.
  • Schedules annual inspections for fire extinguishers and systems, including hood systems and elevators.
  • Coordinates repairs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
  • Oversees painting, remodeling, and building repairs. 
  • Sets up preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Manages work orders and maintenance records.
  • Monitors, orders, and maintains inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensures city facilities comply with safety standards and local regulations
  • Assists with budgeting and cost control for facility operations; and manages P-Card transactions.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance issues, including after hours and on weekends.
  • Ensures grounds surrounding facilities are cared for properly, coordinating with other departments for repairs.
  • Lays out locations for staging and special events and directs set-up and maintenance. 
  • Evaluates equipment life expectancy and replaces as appropriate.
  • May perform custodial services, groundskeeping, and snow/ice treatments and removal.
  • Performs miscellaneous seasonal or event-related duties.
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
  • Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and remains current on the principles, practices, and developments in assigned work areas.
  • Respects the opinions of others and maintains a positive and professional working relationship with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders.
  • Responds to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:

  • Three (3) years' of experience performing maintenance or custodial related duties, including performing skilled repair and maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, building maintenance, and grounds related work; using specialized tools and equipment; maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports; estimating material needs and costs for jobs; and reading blueprints and specifications.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • One year of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building system experience.

Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid and current Idaho State driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment law enforcement background check, physical, and drug test to include prescription medications.
  • Must be able to obtain bonding approval from the city’s insurance provider.
  • Must be available for on-call hours and be able to work varying hours, including evenings and weekends.
